WWE has been pushing more and more of its premium live events outside of the U.S., with recent shows taking place in London and Puerto Rico. GQ looks back at some of the best match-ups from that event. Plus, a look back at the history of WWE’s PPV format.
Chris Jericho
Christopher Keith Irvine, better known as Chris Jericho is a Canadian-American professional wrestler, musician, entrepreneur and television personality. He is currently working for All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He has a history with wwe, having competed there on and off since 1999. Y2J’s return on the January 2 episode of Raw was a spectacle. He physically hyped the crowd during his entrance and then tagged in, relishing their cheers.
LA Knight
LA Knight is hoping to earn a WWE title shot when he competes in the men’s Money In The Bank ladder match at Saturday’s premium live event. He qualified for the match on the June 2 episode of SmackDown when he defeated Montez Ford. But some fans are a little upset with him because they think he’s not getting enough of a push. They also point out that Damian Priest is older than him.
Natalya
Natalya, whose real name is Natalie Neidhart, is one of WWE's longest-serving female Superstars. She signed with the company back in 2007 and has enjoyed a long run of success in the Women's division. The former Divas Champion was in the ring this week to take on Cora Jade and she showed that she hasn't lost her touch. She dominated the ring and made it look easy. It's another good chapter in Natalya's impressive WWE story.
Nia Jax
Savelina Fanene, popularly known by her ring name Nia Jax is an American professional wrestler, bodybuilder, and plus-size model. She is the cousin of WWE superstar Dwayne Johnson and is a part of his Bloodline. She is the first woman to compete in two Royal Rumble matches. She infamously punched Becky Lynch, who suffered a broken nose and a lacerated face during the match. Many fans dislike Jax due to her unsafe working style. She has been accused of hurting opponents such as Kairi Sane, Charlotte Flair, and Ember Moon.
Gunther
If you’ve watched Gunther’s Millions, a four-part docuseries that teases out the furry tangles of an Italian millionaire dog and his eccentric handler, you’ve probably had some questions. For example, what is the deal with that animal sanctuary in the Bahamas? James Michael Tyler portrayed Gunther on Friends for nearly a decade. He appeared in 148 of the sitcom’s 236 episodes. The Imperium leader has said he would love to face Brock Lesnar in a one-on-one match.
Cathy Kelley
Cathy Kelley is an interviewer for WWE. She started her WWE career in 2016 and quickly became a fan favorite. In her role as a backstage interviewer, she has become close to several WWE superstars. Kelley has dated both Velveteen Dream and Finn Balor, who are both currently under contract with the company. Recently, Kelley tweeted a joke about Trish Stratus and Zoey Stark that caused some backlash from fans. This led to her tweeting a clarification about the comments. Santana & Ortiz
Santana and Ortiz are now mainstays of AEW’s tag team division after making their debut under the EYFBO names in 2019. The two previously worked together as LAX with Konnan in IMPACT Wrestling. Fightful recently spoke to Santana and Ortiz and they mentioned that AEW President Tony Khan wants them to use their signature face paint more often. They also enjoy the range of experience in AEW’s tag teams.
Ahmed Johnson
In wrestling, wrestlers put their bodies on the line for the entertainment of the crowd. While they aren’t intentionally trying to hurt each other, sometimes things go wrong. Ahmed Johnson was given a big push as part of the New Generation Era in WWE. He was supposed to be a future star but never lived up to his potential. He would become known for his awful in-ring performance and a reputation for injuring opponents. He also developed a bad attitude and feuded with the Nation of Domination.
The Miz
A multi-time Intercontinental Champion, The Miz parlayed his reality TV fame into a solid WWE career. He and his wife, Maryse, are stars of the USA Network reality show "Miz & Mrs." With Endeavor already holding stakes in several major global sports properties (including Formula One and UFC), the merger seems like a natural fit for both companies. Especially considering the crossover potential between wrestling and Hollywood talent.
More Words
John Cena surprised fans at Money in the Bank by pitching that WWE's largest live event, Wrestlemania, could be held outside of North America. Paul "Triple H" Levesque did not shut the door on that idea. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and other wrestling legends pay tribute to The Iron Sheik, who died on Wednesday at age 81.
